SAN JOSE, Calif., Jun 23, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:TSRA), a leading
provider of miniaturization technologies for the electronics industry,
today announced that Bruce McWilliams, Tessera's chairman, president
and CEO, was named a winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The
Year(R) 2005 Awards in Northern California in the Manufacturing &
Semiconductors category. In a world-class program that is sponsored by
the professional services firm Ernst & Young LLP and honors innovation
and leadership, McWilliams was selected from 25 finalists in Northern
California by an independent panel of judges comprised of local
business, academic and community leaders.
"I am truly honored to have received this award, which reflects
the outstanding accomplishments of Tessera and its employees," said
Bruce McWilliams. "I'm very fortunate to be working with an enormously
talented team, and I accept this award on behalf of our entire
company, which this year is celebrating its 15th anniversary of
developing best-in-class technologies for the global electronics
industry."
Since assuming his position as chief executive officer in June of
1999, McWilliams has defined Tessera's growth and profitability
strategy, steering the company from an operating loss to 14
consecutive quarters of profitability and a 59-percent annual revenue
growth rate from 2000 - 2004. To date, over 5 billion semiconductors
incorporating Tessera's technology have been shipped, with more than
1.5 billion shipping in 2004 alone. Tessera's technology can be found
in a broad range of consumer, computing, communications, medical and
defense electronics.
Latham & Watkins LLP, the Silicon Valley law firm that often works
with Tessera on its business transactions, was one of the companies
that nominated Bruce McWilliams for the Entrepreneur of the Year
award. "Bruce is very deserving of this honor because he is both an
innovator and a leader of people. We have been proud to work with him
as Tessera has developed into an industry leader," said Patrick
Pohlen, a partner at Latham & Watkins who co-chairs the firm's Venture
and Technology Practice.
Mihir Jobalia, Vice President, Investment Banking, Raymond James &
Associates, also nominated McWilliams for this award. "Bruce is a
leader of great vision and entrepreneurship," said Jobalia. "Bruce and
Tessera embrace the spirit and determination embodied by this award.
Congratulations on this achievement."
McWilliams will be eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur
Of The Year 2005 national program. Winners in several national
categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur
Of The Year, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm
Springs, Calif., on November 19, 2005.
